The first ever fashion show at The White Hotel

Divinemania is a character-driven fashion documentary following British designer Madi Marcantonatos as she prepares for the first ever fashion show atthe iconic White Hotel.

The 25 minute film begins with a first meeting in Manchester's Northern Quarter where she muses on being a designer in our current age, speaking openly about who she feels is responsible for her success. She discusses existence within social media and her upbringing with influential fashion designer / non biological gay power-uncle, Antony Price.

She swings by the apartment of nearby friends, leading to an uncomfortable conversation about self medication and enablement. We then follow her working away frantically in the cluttered studio, observing what she calls 'turbo-ADHD'taking hold. Madi meets with event organisers and on this same day is summoned to a surprise court appearance, just weeks before the show.

Through a frantic pulling together of friends, favours and punk grit (Divinemania takes its name from Vivienne Westwood's 'Anglomania' collection), years of hard work culminates in a raucous DIY display of Manchester subculture.

The film features music by Manchester house legend Finn (Local Action, 2 B REAL), Lauren Duffus (Body Motion) Proc Fiskal (Goodness) and Finga Tipz.

About the filmmaker:

Anastasia is a British/Cypriot filmmaker based in Manchester. Her previous work includes the documentary 'Cassidy' which focuses on a young sex worker who migrates to Manchester after being blacklisted by the FBI in the US. She also produced 'See You In The Shubz', serving as a time capsule of Manchester nightlife in 2017. It follows a Grand Theft Auto themed rave at Mantra warehouse and interviews the bouncers, partygoers and promoters. At the forefront of her practise is the utilisation of music as a storytelling and stylistic device.
